Rising Eagle - July Newsletter
Robert Frost Stone House Museum, Shaftsbury, VT
Hi all!
Thanks to all of you who came out to one of The Sweet Janes shows in June. I have such a good time playing with Lori and MB. Talented, kind women, who are so much fun to hang with. This month Dave and I are back at the Rising Eagle Publick House, which has become one of my favorite places to play. They have great food, and such a nice vibe.
I have been enjoying the slower pace of these first few weeks of summer. Or maybe my pace has been slower just because of all the very, very hot days we've had? Anyway, I've been reading and thinking about songwriting, next steps for shows, etc. If anyone has any ideas about places you'd like me to play, please share! We had a nice trip to VT at the end of June, and went to the Robert Frost Stone House Museum (more below), which is pictured above.
I hope you all have been enjoying the start to summer!
:) Kirsten

Creative Musings
Our house has been in a state of controlled (sort of) chaos for the last two months, as we have undergone a kitchen renovation. It is so close to being done, and I am so excited! I am really looking forward to cooking again; I knew I loved to cook, but honestly I am surprised at how much I have missed it. I didn't realize how much of a creative outlet it is for me.
I am not a fancy cook at all. I don't make gourmet meals, or use a plethora of unusual ingredients. I do have food allergies however, so I have always had to think creatively about making certain meals. Especially 25 years ago when I was diagnosed, and oat milk was certainly not available in every store. So my mother, brother (they share the same allergies) and I have come up with different recipes of traditional meals and foods that we can eat (with the help of cookbooks and blogs of course), and still taste delicious. Think tuna noodle casserole and mashed potatoes and yellow cake with chocolate frosting (our family's traditional birthday cake) and many more.
When I think about my creative life, I tend to focus on the bigger things like songwriting and singing. But this experience has taught me that the smaller acts of creativity, like cooking, are just as important. They are also a way to practice creativity consistently, and weave creativity through my life daily, without really even having think about it. Now I have a better understanding of how necessary that is.
Good Stuff
As I mentioned above, Tim and I visited the Robert Frost Stone House Museum at the end of June, when we spent a long weekend in Shaftsbury, VT. This is the house in which he wrote many of the poems in his Pulitzer Prize winning book "New Hampshire," including Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening (which we learned he wrote on a hot June morning). It's a lovely little building and the pretty grounds include a walkable poetry trail, apple trees, and lots of greenery. If you are in the area (which is a wonderful area to visit in general), it's nice little stop. I enjoyed learning a bit about Frost's creative process, and have been revisiting his poems - I hadn't read many of them in years. Also, just for you Gen Xers, like me - Nothing Gold Can Stay always reminds of "The Outsiders." Which I might also have to revisit...
