House Concert in Woburn, Topsfield Fair, and Lynn Farmers Market - August Newsletter

Hello all,

Are we in the dog days of summer? I feel like maybe we're past them. Let me google that, and I will be right back. (Pause for googling).

OK, so the dog days are actually from July 3 - August 11. Who knew? Well, I mean I know someone did, but it wasn't me. And they are called dog days because the sun occupies the same region of the sky as Sirius, the Dog Star, pictured above.

It seems we are past the dog days of summer then, and I will admit that the air is a bit crisp in the early mornings, although it certainly feels like summer outside as I write this. And, I do have three more outdoor gigs to go: Music and Friends House Concert Series, the Lynn Farmers Market and the Topsfield Fair (info below), so I am going to make summer last as long as I can.

I am particularly excited about the house concert. Super-duper live music supporters and wonderful couple Nancy and Tim Walsh had a series at their home in Medford prior to the pandemic. Well, they now have a home in Woburn, and they have gotten it all set up for them to start up the series again. I hope the local folks can join us! Information is below. We'll be on the deck if the weather is nice, and inside if it is not.

As always, thank you so music for your interest and support! I hope to see you out at a show!

:) Kirsten

I love house concerts! And this one has terrific hosts - they couldn't be more supportive of live music. I will play a bunch of songs of course, and the husband Tim Foley will join me on some, as well as play a few of his songs from his new album Stop Along the Way. Suggested donation of $15.

And we're back again at the longest running agricultural fair in the country. This is always one of my favorite gigs, and I always like seeing the familiar faces who come out to see us.

I have been doing a lot of reading lately about nutrition. As I get older, I am noticing my body has different nutritional needs (one being more protein - oh my gosh, SO much protein). Anyway, I decided to see if there was any research regarding nutrition and creativity, and lo and behold, the answer is yes. One study in particular shows a correlation between eating more fruits and vegetables and higher levels of curiosity and creativity both at the "between- and within-person levels." So I guess if you were looking for another reason to add more fruits and veggies to your diet, more creativity is a good one!

Good Stuff

In honor of stretching out summer and eating more fruits and veggies, I am going to share two of my favorite summer recipes, which I make every year. They are both from past issues of Eating Well, which I find has a lot of really nice recipes. Maybe you will enjoy one or both!

Orange-Earl Grey Iced Tea

Summer Succotash Salad

This summer salad is based on the Southern favorite, succotash, and is a fresh-tasting combination of butter beans, corn, summer squash and tomatoes.
