Rising Eagle in Melrose - February Newsletter

Hello everyone,

It is nice to be connecting with you again. As I write this my husband is rehearsing with some band members in the other room, which not only is a lovely background sound for creating this newsletter, but is a reminder of all the ways in which music connects us with other people. Music connected he and I, and now I am connected to the wonderful musicians he plays with. I'm grateful that my music and creative endeavors has led me to connect with all of you - and some of you I would never even know if it weren't for music!

I mentioned in my last newsletter that I was going to slow down for the winter, and I pretty much have. I've been reading and journaling and meditating and working around the house - and even writing. I have a new song pretty much completed, and that's a good feeling. But I am venturing out of the house on Monday night for a show in Melrose with Dave. Information is below, and I hope to see some of you there.

I also hope you have been having a good winter - and spring isn't that far away!

:) Kirsten

Creative Musings

These slower winter months have (yet again) taught me the lesson that creativity comes when I make room for it to come. When I make space in my life and calendar for creative work songs show up and ideas show up, and even opportunities appear as well.

Why is it so hard to remember this? I get so caught up in the busyness of the life, and the things I think "have" to get done, and get done now. But that means a lot of times creative work doesn't happen. And I don't really like that trade-off. So I am going to make an effort, as we move forward into the busier, warmer months to keep making that space. I don't want to wait until to next winter to have to learn this lesson (yet again).

Good Stuff

I have absolutely fallen in love with the documentary American Symphony, featuring Jon Batiste. It is such a beautiful story of resilience and living creatively. I have been telling everyone about it. It's on Netflix. I highly, highly recommend it. Definitely good stuff!
