Jimmy Tingle, Sweet Janes, and North Reading - March Newsletter

Hi all,

Happy Spring! My jonquils (pictured above) have started to bloom. Spring is definitely arriving. We have had so much rain here. I know it will mean things will be green and pink and purple and pretty, but I have definitely been craving the sun, so I am glad it is sunny where I am today.

I have some super fun shows that I am excited to tell you about. This coming week I will again be opening for Jimmy Tingle - this time on Sunday afternoon in Wakefield, MA. Tickets can be found at jimmytingle.com. If you haven't caught his Humor for Humanity show, you really should. It's hopeful, uplifting and there will be much laughter!

And speaking of laughter, there's always a lot of it when MaryBeth Maes, Lori Wadkins, and I get together as the Sweet Janes, which we will be doing this coming Saturday night. We always have a great time hanging out, singing harmonies on some of our favorite cover songs, plus throwing in some originals as well.

Then at the end of the month I will be performing a show with Mark Bishop Evans at the North Reading Community Coffee House. This is a great listening space.

All the info is below! Hope to see you at a show! And thank you for all your support!

:) Kirsten

Creative Musings

As spring blooms, I always feel a bit more energized, and excited to start new projects and
re-emerge out of my little winter cocoon. This feeling reminds that there is cycle to creativity. There are days, months, seasons, etc. when my creativity is a bit dormant. The reasons may vary - maybe I have finished a big creative project like an album and I need to recharge, or maybe it's because as humans we are closely aligned with the changing of the seasons, and we all need some rest during our various winters - literal or metaphorical.

When this would happen when I was younger, I would worry. "Oh my gosh, what if I can just never write another song again? Are all my songs just gone for good?" I'd think to myself. And after overthinking and over analyzing, a song would eventually appear. So now I don't worry too much about my fallow times. I know they will eventually pass (thankfully) and and they are an important part of the larger creative cycle we all experience.

Good Stuff

One of my favorite events to attend every year is the Salem Film Fest, which took place last weekend.
The film we saw was Subterranean. I am always amazed at the kinds of things people take on, and how skilled and enthusiastic people are when following a passion. Not only are the cavers in this film exceptional, but so is the filmmaker, who pretty much had to do everything the cavers did, and film it as well. This film is good stuff on so many levels, and if you can catch it somewhere, I definitely recommend doing so!
