Buttermilk Falls, Ithaca, NY
Hello all!
What's up, everyone? It's nice to be in your inbox again. I took a couple of months off from sending a newsletter. I was trying to give myself some down time in a few different ways. I'm not sure it totally worked - life always seems to throw us some surprises, doesn't it? But Tim and I did get away in May to the Finger Lakes region of New York, which is where the photo above was taken.
But I've got some fun shows with Dave lined up for the summer, and two of them are this month. That information is below. Those of you who have been reading this newsletter for awhile know how much I love playing outdoor gigs, so I am really looking forward to my summer gigs.
I hope you all are having a nice summer so far, and I hope you savor it - this season always go by so quickly.
Thank you for reading, and hope to see you out at a show!
:) Kirsten

When I am at home, I can find a zillion other things to do other than sitting down to write. I can find something to clean (and trust me, I don't like cleaning, but somehow it seems like something I have to get done before I can put pen to paper), I can plan dinner, I can play with Evander. You name it - I can find a way to put off writing until everything is as I think it should be - which of course is kind of an impossible goal. And I know I am not alone. This is common among creative people (my brother learned a long time ago that he needs to go to coffee shops to write, for all the same reasons I listed above). And what's crazy is I love to write! So why do I and other writers procrastinate? Well, if you google that very question you get a myriad of answers. I think the more important question is, how can I stop procrastinating, and start writing?
I like to do two things. One is set a schedule. If I have planned in my calendar that I am going to write Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m., for some reason that tricks my brain, and I don't get caught up in the rest of my to-do list. Those tasks will be scheduled for some other time - my calendar says so. :)
I also like a change of scenery. If I am not at home, it's much easier to avoid getting sucked into whatever home project is staring me in the face. But if I go to the lake in my town, or the library with the sole purpose of writing, I will get something done.
And don't get me wrong. Even with a scheduled time, and/or a change of scenery, there are days I still need to make myself focus and do the work. But when I do, I am always very glad I did. :)
The new Carly Pearce album, Hummingbird, is pretty darn good. If you like a traditional country sound with a bit of a pop sensibility, this album fits the bill. I especially like "Things I Don't Chase" and "Pretty Please."
