Gratitude Abounds! - November Newsletter
Hello all,
I hope you all had a very Happy Thanksgiving, spending it exactly as you wished - whether that was a loud and boisterous celebration with many people, or a quiet and contemplative meal, relaxing and renewing.
I have much to be thankful for, not the least of which is you folks - the people who take an interest in and support my music. I am so grateful every time you listen, come to a show, buy an album, speak to how a song of mine moved you. It means the world to me, and I am truly grateful - thank you!
I
have been working on the new album (slowly, but surely it is getting there) and have some songs that are very close to finished. One of them, called "It's All Over But the Cryin'" was inspired by an article in the sports section of the Boston Globe. The writer referred to the game being "All over but the crying" after a certain play was made. And I thought "Well, that sounds like a song title." You can listen to it here.
I continue to write and post Insta-Poetry to my Instagram page. I really enjoy creating these little vignettes. Fine some of the new ones here, here, and here.
My final show of 2021 will be December 4 in Somerville, MA. I hope to see some of you there! I'd love to be able to thank you in person for taking an interest in my music. In the meantime, I hope you continue to enjoy the holiday weekend.
:) Kirsten

SSS started up in-person shows again this year, and I am excited to return their stage, joined also by Grace Morrison and Mark Stepakoff. We'll each do a short solo set and then play in-the-round. The Armory is requiring proof of vaccination and masks are required except when eating and drinking. Suggested donation is $10.
Lyric Greeting Cards
For me, part of feeling grateful is giving back. I try to do that in a variety of different ways, but one of which is supporting the organization Girls Behind the Rock Show with the proceeds from my lyric greeting cards. So if you are looking for some holiday cards, or for a gift for the stationery lover in your life, please consider these cards, with my lyrics as text, and designs by Sunshine & Lemons.
Creative Musings
I have been thinking about the connection between gratitude and creativity, and it turns out I am not the only one! When I googled the phrase, a number of scholarly articles appeared arguing that gratitude improves creative performance. It seems this is because gratitude can decrease anxiety and increase your connection to your intuition, among other things. A gratitude practice doesn't have to be all that time-consuming; it can simply be thinking of three things you are thankful for each night before you go to sleep. I try to write a gratitude list each morning after I finish my morning journaling. And for people who like to have a little bit of structure, there is even a 5-minute gratitude journal on the market. (Of course there is...) :) There are other benefits to thankfulness as well, of course, so "attitude of gratitude" is the way to go!
