Metronome Interview, Topsfield Fair and More - October Newsletter

Hello all,

October is here! And this means one of my favorite gigs of the year - the Topsfield Fair. I can already taste the veggie tempura, and am looking forward to little baby piglets to see and the Tilt-A-Whirl to ride! I also have other shows this month, both in-person and virtual - all the information is below. I hope to see you at one.

I had a lot of fun talking to Brian Owens for a cover story in Metronome Magazine. (Scroll  to read once you click the link.) The October issue is on is on the stands now, and the interview is included. Many thanks to Metronome for the interview opportunity!

And here is a quick recap of some recent news regarding the new album. I continue to be grateful for the ways in which Blossom in the Sun is traveling through the world.

I hope you all enjoy these autumn days. I really appreciate your interest in and support of my music! Thank you so much and I hope to see you at a show, whether in-person or virtually!

:) Kirsten

Creative Musings

I love the summer, and I love all the foods of summer - those cold salads are a favorite (potato, pasta, macaroni, green) and I love the grilled food of cookouts, corn on the cob, and vine-ripened tomatoes. (And of course fried green tomatoes in the late summer - hence the title of my song.)

But one of the things I look forward to as the weather turns cooler is cooking soups and stews, and comfort-food meals like roast chicken and rice, or a big pot of tomato sauce. Foods that are too hot and heavy for the dog days of summer.

And in my opinion cooking is one of the most creative things to do. I love to find a recipe and try it out, and then play around with it -change it up a bit to make it my own. And there are so many ways you can be creative with a meal. Taste and seasoning of course, but also food combinations, and visual presentation. And you can have this whole creative experience in a relatively short amount of time - I can definitely finish a meal quicker than I can finish a song. And it's a way for me to be creative during periods of my life in which I don't have as much time to devote to writing. Plus, I get to eat what I make - the best part! :)

Good Stuff

Well, I suppose I should start with a recipe, now that I have gone on about cooking as a creative outlet. Here is a sweet potato chili recipe from one of my favorite food websites to warm you up on a crisp autumn day.

On the music front, Sunny Sweeney's new album Married Alone came out in September. I have been a fan of the Texas singer/songwriter for awhile now, and this album does not disappoint. It especially does not disappoint if you are looking for an album that sounds country. This one fits the bill. I really like all the tracks, but two favorites are the title song, and Want You to Miss Me.
