Sweet Janes are Back! And a House Concert - May Newsletter
Hi everyone!
Thank you and welcome to the new folks on this list! I appreciate your interest and support.
I am very excited, as the Sweet Janes are playing on Saturday and it has been way too long since we have had a show together. We'll have originals, covers, harmonies, and lots of laughs. MaryBeth and Lori are so great to work with, and we have a ton of fun.
And then on Sunday I am looking forward to opening for Sloan Wainwright. I will play a 15 minute set to open, and then I will sit back and enjoy Sloan's amazing vocals. If you would like to attend this house concert, the information is below.
I hope you all are doing well, and that May has good things in store for you. Thank you for reading!
:) Kirsten

I went to the Newburyport Literary Festival this past weekend. As you know, I love anything creative, and I really love to hear about others' creative processes. It's especially interesting to me to hear from people who don't write songs, but work in another medium, and how they approach their creative practice, where they get they're ideas from, etc. And I am fascinated by thought of writing a book. So many words - compared to a song at least! There's the writer who gets up at 3 a.m. every day and writes for 3 hours until his two little kids wake up - he gets them ready, and then goes off to his full time job! And the writer who just had an idea that wouldn't leave her, and finally she decided now was the time to write that novel - so she just went ahead and did it. Or the author whose guilty pleasure is to watch the Real Housewives franchise, and imagined a story around a specific "plot line" that appeared one season.
I am inspired by all these things. The dedication of the father who makes sure he has time to write, even if he can only find it at 3 a.m. The decision to finally just sit down and start writing the book. And the reminder that ideas come from everywhere - including a guilty pleasure reality show. I am renewed and reinvigorated in my own creative life. Maybe some new songs will come? Or who knows - maybe a book someday? ;) Someday, maybe.
Good Stuff
I am going to stick with the theme, so to speak, and tell you that this month's Good Stuff highlight is, in fact, the Newburyport Literary Festival. I highly recommend attending next year (usually the last weekend in April) in person if you are in the area or virtually if you are not. They have both options. There is such a breadth of all different kinds of literature - poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and anything else you can think of. There are readings and panel discussions, and best of all the whole thing is free! Plus, you get to hang out in Newburyport, a very cool town. Mark your calendars for next year!
