Methuen, Sharon, and Potpourri - November Newsletter

Hello all,

Thank you and welcome to the new folks on this list. I appreciate your interest and support!

There are just three more shows on my schedule for 2023, and I am really looking forward to all three. This Sunday, Nov. 12, I will be the Methuen Music Hall with Susan Levine and Grace Morrison. On Sunday, Nov. 19 Jackie Damsky and I will perform at Lakeview House Concerts in Sharon, MA. And on December 9 I will once again host the Linden Tree Coffee House's Winter Potpourri. Information about all these shows is below - I hope to see you out at one of them!

I am also happy to share that my husband Tim Foley's new album is doing well! In fact, tonight (11/6) one of his songs will be featured on 92.5 the River, as part of their Home Grown Showcase. Tune in! Scroll on down to the Good Stuff section of this newsletter to read more about all the good things that have happened with the album.

Thanks to all of you for sharing in this musical journey!

:) Kirsten

Join us for Winter Potpourri 2023, an evening of discovering new talent! Eight local singer/songwriters will play two songs each, and one or more of these folks will be chosen to perform during next year’s season. Audience input will play a big part in the decision-making process, so please come help us make this choice while enjoying new music and new faces. One of last year's winners, Erin Ash Sullivan, will play a 25 minute featured set as well.

Creative Musings

I was reminded very recently (last week) of the power of the subconscious mind. I was working on a song, and the line I had was "There'll be straight and narrow ways, and there'll be ways that curve." I really didn't like the word "curve." It said what I needed it to say, but it's not the easiest to sing, and frankly, not much rhymes with it. But I was stumped. I couldn't think of another word, or another phrasing that would work with the meter and the melody. So I did what any good songwriter would do - I gave up and went to bed. :)

But it worked out for me. The next morning when I woke up, my mind sang to me "There'll be straight and narrow ways, and there'll be ways that wind." Well, that is just so much better! And this happens to me more often than not, if I just remember to let it happen. My subconscious mind is more adept at figuring these things out than my conscious mind is, and I am a whole lot more productive if I just let it do it's thing, whether that be by sleeping, going for a walk, or taking a drive. If you want to make this something of a habit, check out this 10 minute bedtime routine.

Speaking of habits, I promised a report about my 5 minutes of daily meditation. Well, it wasn't the jump start I hoped it would be. I probably meditated more than I would have if I hadn't given myself the challenge, but not by a lot. So I am going to have to think of some other way to get myself back in the habit. I am certainly open to ideas if you have any! :)

Good Stuff

More and more folks are agreeing that Tim's new album Stop Along the Way is indeed Good Stuff! I mentioned above that he will be played on one of our local radio stations tonight. But he is also being played all across the country. He has been in the Top 200 on the Americana charts, and in the Top 20 of the Relics/Jam Band Charts. (Peaked at No. 13!) Plus he has gotten some really nice reviews. Here is one to check out. Finally, he and the band did a cover story interview for Metronome Magazine this month. It is on stands now, and you can read the online version here. Yay, Tim!
